Rodney: Customised options to complement the new Council service
From Monday 1st September 2025, Auckland Council is transitioning Rodney households to a rates-funded rubbish collection using Council-supplied wheelie bins.
As this new system rolls out, Econowaste is here to make the transition easier. We’re offering flexible, affordable add-on services to complement your Council bin — giving you more choice, control, and convenience at home.
We understand every household is different. Maybe the new Council bin feels too small and you'd rather avoid the cost and delays of upsizing. Or perhaps you only need extra capacity now and then. You might even be wondering how to manage garden waste — since it’s no longer accepted in your Council rubbish bin.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a new bin? Can I stay with Econowaste instead?
Your Auckland Council rates-funded bin is included in your property's rates.
If the Council's service is not suitable for your needs, you can absolutely keep your service with us. Simply choose one of the flexible options above and update your service in MyAccount.
How does EcoPay – pay-as-you-throw work?
EcoPay is Econowaste's 100% flexible service that is designed to complement your Council rubbish bin.
There are no ongoing costs with EcoPay and you only pay when you need to put it out for collection.
The best part about EcoPay is that it's super easy to use. There's no booking required, you simply put your bin out on your regular Council collection day and our online system charges your nominated credit or debit card when your bin is collected.
Is EcoPay available for garden waste bins?
Unfortunately EcoPay is not available for garden waste bins.
Bear in mind, our garden waste offer for transitioning Econowaste customers is very competitively priced so take advantage of it now!
Can I pay Council and keep my Econowaste bin?
You are able to use both the Council service and an Econowaste service at the same time. However, you cannot use your Econowaste wheelie bin for your Council rates-funded rubbish collection service.
If you'd like to keep using an Econowaste service, please let us know by choosing one of the options above through MyAccount.
What is rates-funded collection?
Rates-funded collection is an Auckland Council rubbish collection service that is paid for through an annual charge in your property's rates.
Do I have to get a new bin from Auckland Council?
To use Auckland Council's rates-funded service, you will need an Auckland Council branded rubbish bin.
If you don't currently have one, you will need to request one from Auckland Council.
Can I opt out of rates-funded rubbish collections?
No, unfortunately you cannot opt out of Auckland Council's rates-funded collection service.
I've cancelled my service, when will you remove the bin?
If you will no longer have an Econowaste service, we will be in contact to arrange collection of your wheelie bin.
Thank you for your support over the years. We appreciate your patience as we process and carry out bin recollections.
